Review on Milk Yield Performance of Crossbred Dairy Cows in Ethiopia

Crossbreeding had been initiated and put into practice in various parts of Ethiopia for a very long time to improve milk yield performance. This review was conducted generating compiled information on production traits such as daily (DMY), lactation length (LL), cross breed dairy cattle Ethiopia. Review results performances varied greatly from one genotype another. The on-station yield, were ranged 1293.01±23.70 2957.46±72.98 liters, 298.68±5.17 374.05±7.24 days, 4.18±5 8.70±0.17 respectively, whereas the on-farm 631.69±222.98 2705.43 241.65±26.22 310.91±41.83 days 7.30±0.16 9.91 respectively. Among genotypes, 50% F1 75% Holstein Friesian first generations considered suitable parameters. development F2, F3, second showed low production. Regardless blood level difference, performance crossbred cows almost similar experimental cows. Crossbred affected by non-genetic factors like year, season, parity, depending study location. In general, have good compared indigenous (local) breeds. However, animals could not exploit their maximum potentials because are subjected different environmental effects.
